The Beauty of Japan

Yasunari Kawabata's The Old Capital somehow holds a spell over me like an ancient Oriental charm; so does the ensemble in Kimonos of elaborate colourful patterns and outrageous coiffures. Throw in traditional musical instruments such as the Japanese drum, Shakuhachi and Samisen, the Maiko dance seems to present the beauty, the art and culture of Kyoto all at once.
