Going Home After Rain

Bitten ground bone-chill,
Random drops bone-cracking,
Now breeding water to heal
The home-ward footsteps passing.

While crossing the car park,
One of the few times I've seen
Cars sweating, leaves aflame duck
Beneath house lights dim.

Remove my shoes like ships
Back weary from a long journey.
A warmth familiar from first sip
Instigates my glad arrival.
