Short-take: A Brief Antithesis

Considering his position, and the gravity of the issue, I have got to be honest, that I am not convinced a two-party political model can't work in Singapore. I understand that "Singapore depends critically on an outstanding team of leaders", but isn't that one more reason to have an opposition party to check on the ruling one? His words, "But it is not our job to build up the opposition...", seem only to portend my greatest fear of the People's Action Party's Secretary General having put his own party above the country. My point is, when he makes decisions, which comes first, the party or the country?
