An Update III

Yes, I survived the run! But barely. I had to draw on my experience from the Bay Run, and I was mentally prepared for the toughness of the uneven, muddy trail, considering my weak ankles. Sadly, I failed to improve my timing, though I can console myself that this was a tougher trail under searing, hellish heat. I faltered miserably, slowing to a near-crawl in the last 2 KM, on a straight, seemingly endless road without a tree or cover in sight. I learned sometimes ago that without the spirit when running, the legs turn wobbly. And it was this knowledge that pulled me through. (Funny, I don't remember the last time I write something with so many "I". Well, I will try not to let that get to me.)
Sunday afternoon. KL and I watched the Jap blockbuster "20th Century Boys". And oh boy, what a rush, what a ride! I enjoyed the manga-inspired, doomsday plot. Themes from "Watchmen" did cross my mind, but less dark, putting a dent to its originality. I couldn't help smiling at the nine kids in various Ultraman-like poses, playing earth-protectors. Now, this is a theme that you can't find in "Watchmen": how manga moulds the character of young.* No doubt, the main character, Kenji, possesses a great sense of justice. Though, in this case, there is also side-effect and it's kind of cool, that their childishly scrawled manga becomes a "Book of Prophecy" for a cult sect. Imagine that! In this way, similar to "Death Note"#, the kids outwit the adults.

*In "Watchmen", one of the heroes, the original "Night Owl", is already a grown-up when comics inspire him to fight crime.

#In "Death Note", both the genius detective and criminal are just kids.
