Nightfall, Guitar Strains, Pervading Rain

Nightfall. Silence, calm mellowed in lethargy. A feeling of emptiness, or light-heartedness. Then came the guitar strains. Light touches reverberated somewhere across the block, everywhere in the dark air. Somebody was playing Eric Clayton's "Tears in Heaven". The plucking was mediocre as clumsy fingers struggled to get it right. Again and again. But it wouldn't matter. For it lent the night a chic, comfy nuance.

Then came the rain. Like tears in heaven, rattling the cement roofs, the tree leaves, the tarred road; drowning out the night, the guitar strains.
