I dare say anybody who has read the novel will agree that E.M. Forster is almost like an old master of chick lit from the last century, who manipulated all the elements of an emotional roller-coaster adroitly.
The heroine, Lucy Honeychurch, epitomises all women's vulnerability, insecurity, as she develops into a creature of sophistication and a woman of her own right and her own thoughts. The fruit of love, after the tumult of time apart and society's pretentiousness and expectations, is especially sweet.
On a deeper level, E.M. Forster never strayed from the importance of human values, of morality and uniqueness in our society. And ladies, you can count yourself lucky for simply being born in this era, giving you the freedom to decide. Like George, the hero - only for his one instance of courage in speaking his mind - in the novel, I too, "want to live", to dictate my life and to find the joy that is rightfully my. Though, it may not necessarily be the same means.
All in all, a thoroughly wonderful read!
